garden by the sea

16 NOVEMBER, 2008

We've decided to move closer to the ocean and into a bigger place so we are now renting a duplex which sits on a vast ocean headland. The area is raw and powerful, with all kinds of weather seeking its way into our bodies and our home. We live below another family and share a huge, sunbaked backyard, so together we've filled it up with square garden beds contained by found planks of wood, a compost bin, some chickens and a trampoline.

On advice from the other family we also added bags of mushroom compost to the soil as well. We've planted an array of seedlings and seeds - everything we loved to eat. Finally, I have a poly-culture garden growing from the earth again and receiving loads of sun.
