The garden loosely follows basic permaculture principles with the grouping together of different plants in an attempt to imitate nature. As the kitchen is situated in the centre of the house it didn't seem to matter whether or not the garden was at the front or back, as far as ease of access and zoning goes. The most significant factor for placing the garden was how the sun bathes the front yard for most of the day. We planted a number of fruit trees including a mandarin, lemon and apple and plenty of herbs, salad greens and vegetables. We have also planted a magnolia tree and some standard roses.
