the swale solution

The garden is happening again thanks to some spring showers and the moon is in its first quarter phase, so I will be sowing the veggie seeds and warm season green manure in the next day or two. I have also decided what to do about the swale/pathway. I am going to combine the idea of a swale and hugelkultur in a daring new move!

I pruned some hedges out the back and am going to place the cut branches along the path for easy drainage and cover them with a thinish layer of mulch. Hopefully this will function to slow rain water as it moves down the site, while the branches will decompose in time and continue to build up the soil, as opposed to if stones were used. Hmmm! Lets see...
